DISPOSER SUPREME, AND JUDGE OF THE EARTH
[1]
Disposer supreme, and judge of the earth,
you choose for your own the weak and the poor;
to frail earthen vessels, and things of no worth,
entrusting your riches which ever endure;
[2]
those vessels soon fail, though full of your light,
and at your decree are broken and gone;
thence brightly appearing your truth in its might
through storm clouds comes breaking, as light from the sun.
[3]
Like clouds they are borne to do your great will
and swift as the winds about the world go;
all full of your power, while earth lies there still,
they flash and they thunder, the waters o'erflow.
[4]
Their voices proclaim, 'Christ Jesus is Lord.'
Then Satan is bound, his citadels fall:
as when the dread trumpets went forth at your word,
and one great shout shattered the Canaanites' wall.
[5]
O loud be their shout, and stirring the sound,
to rouse us, O Lord, from sloth and from sin;
maylights which you kindle in darkness around
awake and illumine our spirits within.
[6]
All honour and praise, dominion and might
to you, Three in One, eternally be,
for you shed around us your glorious light
and call us from darkness your glory to see.
